Proof of Insurance

Missouri law requires all motor vehicles to maintain minimum insurance coverage.  Failure to maintain insurance may result in a fine and loss of your right to drive.

If you believe you should not have received a citation (e.g., you had insurance coverage but could not locate your insurance card when requested by the officer), you may mail or bring the following information to the Prosecutor’s Office:

  • a copy of your ticket AND a copy of your insurance card
  • the dates of coverage on the insurance card must include the date you were stopped
  • the vehicle listed on the insurance card must be the vehicle driven
  • you CANNOT purchase insurance coverage after receiving your citation and have the ticket dismissed.

THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE THE WEEK OF YOUR SCHEDULED COURT APPEARANCE.  OTHERWISE YOU MUST APPEAR IN COURT AS SCHEDULED AND BRING THE INFORMATION WITH YOU AT THAT TIME.

If you need additional time to secure proof, you should request a continuance from the Nodaway County Circuit Court.  Their office is located in the Courthouse, 305 North Main Street, Maryville, Missouri.  Their telephone number is (660) 582-5431.
